People need to feel important and understood. These basic elements of who we are as human beings are strongly desired. They are also rarely fulfilled. How many people do you know that make you feel this way? What are you willing to do for those that do?
Communicating, 'You matter and I/we understand you,' satisfies these needs, and in doing so makes possible the trust and emotional connection found in the strongest personal and business relationships. This is the Language of bEIng
Your Language EQ Score measures the degree by which you satisfy these needs, providing you with a unique view into the level of emotional intelligence in your language. The higher your Language EQ the greater your personal and professional growth.
How significant is this? A simple change in pronoun usage (e.g., from I to you) has made the difference between securing or losing a new customer/client, engaging with or disconnecting from a member of your team and building up or ending a personal relationship. Words matter.
While only using 'you' and 'your' is possible based on what you are communicating, it is not necessary (and in certain cases even desirable) to display a high Language EQ. As an example, stating, 'I/we hope you are well' or 'I/we look forward to meeting you' in your message is fine. The goal is to minimize, not eliminate, your use of self/team/firm-centric pronouns. The goal is green.
As with audience-centric pronouns, client keywords help your audience feel important and understood. Audience-centric pronouns communicate, 'This is about you.' Client keywords build on this by communicating, '...and we understand you.'
That's a big deal. Up to 90% of all decisions are based on emotions. The more significant and understood your audience feels, the greater the likelihood of decisions that favor you. As with audience-centric pronoun usage, the goal is green.
